This book is compiled from a series of articles written in the field of the sociology of law and criminology in the years 2005 and 2006. Basically, the articles are of a different kind and are independent of each other. Their common feature is that they all are dealing with new and current themes in the sociology of law and criminology. The chapters in the volume have nevertheless been grouped according to the content in so far as there is a particular category connected in one way or another with the EU, while articles on terrorism or economic crime form a separate category. Actually, the book opens with an article wihich certain classical sociology-of-law themes are looked at from the standpoint of present-day cyber technology and the possibility of its control. Different standpoints are again to be seen in the articles about the effect of environmental legislation. Apart from the contributions of Erhard Blankenburg, Ahti Laitinen, and Meeri Taurinen, all the other studies arise from the research done by the participants for licenciate or doctoral theses. The book is multi-lingual. Some of the writings have been written in English, some are in Finnish, and one article has been presented in Swedish
